A playground in the after-school center does not require the construction of a new space—it can be created in a room the school already has. Mammutico®’smobile elements allow you to transform the after-school center into a space for physical activity, building, and play, and then free up the space for its primary functions after classes.
This solution is particularly suited for schools that need space for physical activity and play but do not plan to make a costly investment in an outdoor playground.
The after-school room doesn’t have to be just a place to sit at tables
The school common room serves several functions at once. Children do their homework there, rest, eat, play, participate in activities, and wait to be picked up by their parents. For this reason, it’s difficult to permanently set aside part of the space for large-scale equipment.
A mobile playground works differently. Mammutico®elements are not attached to the floor or walls. They can be laid out on the floor for playtime and then gathered up and stored away afterward. Thus, the same room changes its function throughout the day without the need for remodeling or permanently occupying space.
There’s no need to build a new space. You just need to use the one you already have in a different way.
A playground for a school without construction investment
Building an outdoor playground involves more than just purchasing equipment. It requires land, a design, ground preparation, appropriate surfacing, installation, and funds for future infrastructure maintenance.
In the case of an after-school program, the school uses an existing room and the existing floor. Mammutico®requires no anchoring or construction work. The play area is created from mobile elements arranged directly inside the room.
This is also important in cases where the school does not have suitable outdoor space. The lack of a schoolyard or an available section of the school grounds does not preclude the creation of a space for active play.
One Room, Many Layouts
Traditional playroom furnishings have specific functions. A table remains a table, a bookshelf remains a bookshelf, and a fixed piece of equipment occupies the same space regardless of whether children are using it.
A mobile playground does not impose a fixed layout. Using the same elements, children can build obstacle courses, spatial structures, vehicles, balance beams, or setups for group play. Once one activity is finished, the structure can be reconfigured and used in a completely different way.
As a result, the space in the after-school center isn’t limited to a single function, and the purchased equipment isn’t restricted to a single play scenario.
Physical activity even when going outside isn’t possible
A playground inside the after-school center solves yet another practical problem: the weather.
Rain, frost, snow, or very low temperatures limit the ability to use an outdoor playground. Inside the after-school center, physical activities take place regardless of outdoor conditions.
This does not mean replacing time spent outdoors. It’s about providing an additional opportunity for activity when going outside isn’t possible or when the group spends several hours in the after-school center.
In the case of after-school programs, physical activity isn’t the only important factor. Older children can use the equipment for more complex constructions, teamwork, problem-solving, and STEAM-based activities.
How much space and time are needed to set up a playground in an after-school program?
Not every after-school program has a large, empty room—and it doesn’t need to. The size of the play area is determined by the available space and the number of children.
Recommended space for selected sets:
Smart 115 –15 m²
Perfect 80 –10 m²
Ball Track –10 m²
In practice, it’s also not necessary to dedicate the entire after-school center to the playground. Tables and other furnishings can remain in one part of the room, while activities take place in a designated area.
If the school has more space available, the number of components and the scale of the structures built can be correspondingly larger.
There is no assembly in the sense of putting together and securing the equipment. The components simply need to be removed from storage and set up in the designated area of the room.
If the Mammutico®sets are stored in another part of the school, the time needed to prepare the play area will depend on how long it takes to walk from the storage room to the common room. Often, however, the blocks are stacked against a wall in the room where they’re most frequently used, so children can start playing almost immediately.
Importantly, the actual building doesn’t have to be done solely by the caregiver. Depending on the children’s age and the type of set, creating structures is part of the activity. So the children don’t just get a ready-made track or building every time—they participate in designing them.
What does the school gain without expanding the building?
The greatest benefit isn’t simply “fitting a playground into a classroom.” It’s the ability to give the existing space an additional function without permanent remodeling.
The common room remains a common room. Depending on the needs, it also becomes a place for physical activity, building play, teamwork, or educational activities.
Once the elements are put away, the space returns to its previous use.

A playground without building a new space
A lack of budget for an outdoor playground doesn’t have to mean giving up a space for active play. If a school has an after-school care room and a free section of floor, it already has the most important element needed to create such a space.
A traditional playground requires a dedicated space for the project. A mobile playground uses space the school is already paying for—and returns it once playtime is over.
